Shaggy

I had the same problem as you but got it solved.

I used the following settings for Gmail:

User login: [YOUR_LOGIN)@gmail.com
User password: [YOUR_PASSWORD)
Tick the IMAP option under account type and tick the "use secure authentication" and SSL.
Incoming server: imap.gmail.com port 993
Outgoing server: use SSL and smtp.gmail.com port 465, User login: I have just entered the name and not the "gmail.com".

When sending mail I first put my email in the first box under "To:" but this is not for the email and is only optional. Use the second box (if you hold the curser on the boxes it actually describes what to put in them :-))

Hey Pako, I'm not sure if you're still doing anything with this plugin but I had a problem that I had to modify it to fix.

I was trying to send an email to an email address that had a + in the user name but the send email action didn't like it. I had to change your validate email address function to this to get it to work:

Code: Select all

def validateEmailAddr(emailAddr):
    if len(emailAddr) > 5:
        if re.match(
            r"^([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.+]+)@((\[[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.)|(([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+\.)+))([a-zA-Z]{2,4}|[0-9]{1,3})(\]?)$",
            emailAddr
        ) != None:
            return True
    return False

you can send sms messages if you know what the e-mail address to yout phone number is.

for at&t a phones e-mail is formatted like so

8778009999@mms.att.net

the digits would be your phone number

you will have to set up an smtp relay with google (pretty easy)

incoming using google
server: imap.gmail.com
port: 993

and for the outgoing
server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465
connection: SSL
username and password: checked
userlogin: your gmail account @gmail.com
userpassword: your gmail account password

just to let you know this had me stuck for a while

in the action config dialog for sending an e-mail there are 2 boxes next to the "To: "

the left one i have no clue what it's fore. but the right one is where you need to enter the email address of the phone

and i believe you have to enter something in the subject line even tho it maynot show. i do know the body shows in the text
depends on the carrier

Hi.

First thanks for your plugin.

I´m trying to use it but i receive this error

IMAP Protocol Error: Cannot log in to account "xxxx@gmail.com" on server "imap.gmail.com:993"

I rechecked everything and the data is correct.

Is this plugin outdated?

thanks a lot in advance

setup for using E-Mail Plugin with Google Mail (gmail)

Plugin Settings:

User Login: YOUR_GMAIL_ACCOUNT@gmail.com
User Password: The Password you use to login to gmail
E-Mail Address: Same as User login

Use secure authentication: Checked
Use secure connection: SSL

Incoming server: imap.gmail.com
port: 993

Outgoing server settings:

Use secure connection: SSL
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465

Use name and password: Checked
User login: same as User login above
User password: Same as User password above

Now i do not remember if there is a setting to turn on the IMAP and SMTP with google I know there is with hotmail. if it doesn't work i would poke around in your gmail settings on googles site and see if you can find something to enable the IMAP

Hi, thanks for your response.

I have everything like you said, but when i try to get the messages i get an email for google telling me there´s an intent to access from a non secure application and that security standards are not up to date.

Do you know how to turn this around?

Thanks a lot in advance

To get around this, you must go to gmail account and enable less secure apps to access the account.

For safety I would recommend only using email accounts that aren't very important for this. :)
