Post by cfull1 » Wed Aug 03, 2011 3:29 pm

I threw together a plugin based off the google code pygooglevoice.
Right now it allows to monitor and send texts.

Nope. It logs in like a browser and scraps the data.

That actually depends. I have T-mobile with the "MyFaves" that allows me unlimited calls to 5 numbers of my choosing. I setup my Google Voice number as one of those 5, so I can initiate an outgoing call from the web interface and it will ring my phone from my Google Voice number, and when I answer it will connect me to the person I was calling.

It's somewhat of a sneaky bypass, but it works great. I know that Verizon and some other cell carriers have similar "freebie" plans where you can select a few numbers to have unlimited calls with. Look into it and you can definitely use Google Voice without using your minutes.

Ok here's the initial release. It's seems to be working fine for me with only a few bugs.
It can:
  • Send texts
  • Receive texts
Requirements:
  • Need a Google Voice Account
  • It does not need to have forwarding setup to anything
Bugs:
  • If you send yourself a message from the voice website it will enter a loop, because it is unable to delete the message.
The Delete All action can stop this. I am actively trying to figure this out, but so far I have had no success.
  • It may give you a bunch of errors when it tries to log in, this has only happened to me once or twice and I'm unable to recreate the problem.
I'm not worrying about it, but if you have that problem you can just disable and re-enable the plugin
Notes:
  • It does delete every message in your Text folder as it is entered into EventGhost.
  • It can load multiple instances for multiple accounts, but have tried since I only have one account.
If you try to load the same account twice, it will crap out.
Let me know what you think!

I'm trying to send an SMS using this, but I'm getting some errors:

(fake number obviously)

15:41:36 Google Voice: Send SMS: 777777777
15:41:37 You must login before using this page
15:41:37 Number is not valid

I entered my email and password properly, not sure what I'm missing here.

Are you sure your email and password are set in the plugin settings?

Do you get the message "Logged into Google Voice" after starting the plugin?

Hey, I know this is a little old, but I'm having the same problem:
18:21:13 Google Voice: Send SMS: 1112223333
18:21:14 You must login before using this page
18:21:14 Number is not valid

When I add the plugin and put in my email address and password and hit "Apply" and then "ok" this is what I get in the log:
18:17:27 OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
18:17:27 Plugin: Google Voice

I assume that's some sort of error message telling me that it isn't working?

Yeah its a log in error.

It's been forever since I've looked at it, I was meaning to change that message.
I just tried it and it works for me.

Can you login to the google voice webpage fine?

Figured out how to fix the issue.

It looks like the old "Grandcentral" login page for Google services has moved. To fix this, go into your EventGhost plugin directory and open the GoogleVoice folder.
Open the "settings.py" file in a text editor and change the line that starts with LOGIN to this:

LOGIN = 'https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogi ... andcentral'

I've attached the fixed settings.py to this post, it should be noted that the email, password and forwardingNumber fields do NOT have to be filled out with your data and can just stay they way they are with the crap data I've put in them.

Glad you got it working. Wonder why it works for me and not you?

I started working on an updated version of the plugin to combine all the files and clean up the code.
Unfortunately other things came on to my plate, and I set it down.

I'm actually having a hard time finding where the settings file is applied.

But you got it working so I'm not going to worry about it ha.
Hopefully I'll have time to update it soon.

I took a look at that code for ya, i see where the problem is. but i am sure it is not the only one. the plugin relies on a library called PyGoogleVoice which has not been updated since 2009. and it listed as defunct on google code pages.

so Unless i write a whole new plugin and api this one is not going to get fixed. and at the moment i do not have the time to do that.
