The required operation requires elevation ??

Post by te36 » Sun Jan 20, 2019 1:15 am

Windows 10, pretty sure i deleted all evidence of prior EG, also rebooted.
Installing from EventGhost_0.5.0-rc6_Setup runs through to the window asking to setup desktop link, etc. and start EG. click ok, and then i get an error window:

Setup:
Unable to execute file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EventGhost\EventGhost.exe

CreateProcess failed ; code 740.
The requrested operation requires elevation.

I can manually start EG, and it also runs mostly fine, but when i click on "options", i get:

Traceback (most recent call last) (0.5.0-rc6):
File "C:\Program Files (x86)\EventGhost\eg\Classes\TaskletDialog.py", line 162, in ProcessingTask
self.Configure(*args, **kwargs)
File "C:\Program Files (x86)\EventGhost\eg\Classes\OptionsDialog.py", line 194, in Configure
languageChoice.SetSelection(languageList.index(config.language))
ValueError: 'en_US' is not in list

Any idea how to troubleshoot something like this ?

Windows always has another load of frustration waiting for you *sigh*

Thanks.

The root cause for the failure is that i had configured the EG binary to "run as administrator" via compatibility settings. But i had completely removed and reinstalled EG in the meantime. Took me a while to figure out that that does not impact that "run as administrator" setting because its not attached to the file itself (which got removed and reinstalled) but was instead hidden in some windows registry entry - which did not get deleted during uninstall.

windows is an adventure hunt that keeps on giving.

you will like this program... be VERY CAREFUL with it. You can booger up a machine really good if you do not know what you are doing.
