Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

Not sure if other people are checking this... but a simple heads-up... If you use HDMI for the audio signal, then the audio gets lost the system initiates powersaving for the screen... :D As I would still like power saving under normal circumstances, I solved it by using the windows command "powercf...

Re: Marantz SR Receiver

I started adding commands, and just adding them to the .py is indeed sufficient. I use the official RS-232 Control spec from the Marantz site: http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?Catid=AVReceivers&SubCatId=0&ProductId=SR6001 Perhaps interesting to note is that some commands a...

Re: Marantz SR Receiver

It needs to be a straight cable. I now use a delock usb-rs232 cable and a straight gender changer. The commands I tested work (I had to adjust a setting on the amplifier to allow it to be switched on via rs232: in the menu, the setting Standby had to be set from Economic to Normal). So I can start a...

Re: Marantz SR Receiver

The SR6001 is not very new, and I think it complies still with the old standard. Thanks for confirming that it suffices to add commands to the .py file. I'll add the ones I need (or more :)) and test it. If it works, I'll post the file here. (may take me some time still: sourcing a DB9 gender change...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

Yes... I tried, but it still crashes on boot. However, I tried on an older computer with an old Matrox videocard. Perhaps there is a problem getting 3D accelleration through VirtualBox on this card (older directX standard or so?). So I'll try on a different system. :) I keep getting kernel panic... ...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

Just realized: I always assumed that I would put the Raspberry in the same room as where the speakers are, but there is no reason at all to do that... It can be in any room, and then send audio still using the same wireless speakers. So still an option to considere, but I would first like to try wit...

Re: Marantz SR Receiver

Hello! I have a Marantz SR6001. Still need to get the serial cable... well I got the cable, but need a gender changer . I noticed that I would like some functionality that is supported according to the serial command list of the amplifier, but not present in the plugin. Is it just a matter of ...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

Thanks! It will take a bit of time before I get everything set up, I've decided to start with a clean system (always good to do that every now and then). :) I will go for the configuration with XBMC running in a VirtualBox. Initial configuration is 2 rooms (livingroom / kitchen), but with this appro...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

I started testing... Apparently, while xbmc has a "portable" mode, it does not allow multiple instances out of the box... So this means either Winamp (which does support multiple instances, and with Kalia's link Eventghost can indeed distinguish), running under multiple users (suggested by Barnabas1...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

You could run the software in two different sessions on your PC. If you setup two user accounts on the PC, you could run EG in both sessions (using different configuration files) and each session would run its own instance of the playback software. You'd have to login to both sessions though. Login...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

...It may be a bit off-topic, but you could use one XBMC instance on the PC with EvenGhost and another one (in room 2) on a Raspberry Pi, than you wouldn't even need two sound cards or audio wire - just (wireless) network. True... I have been looking into that raspberry pi, but it feels too much ha...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

OK, the normal buttons and actions are sent via the EventServer API over the network. I overlooked that one... Many programs have APIs to control them, you just need to check what the plugins uses. Yes, but if the program has no options to set some addressing, two instances might not be dist...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

Perhaps I phrased it wrong... How does your plugin tell xmbc what to do? I assume either via the webserver or using the JSON-RPC API to control xmbc. But I guess most programs are controlled either via hotkeys or via commandline commands, which might make distinguishing them more difficult (I would ...

Re: control multiple instances of softwares?

But are you using controlling xbmc via the network interface? Because then yes, you can assign different ports... Thanks! Multiple xbmc instances might indeed be a solution: one XBMC instance per room... :)
I just have not yet come across an internet radio plugin for it that has the stations I like...

control multiple instances of softwares?

Hello! I've recently come across EventGhost (still need to configure it, currently just experimenting how I will do it), but was thinking of using it as the heart of a multi room system. My idea would be to use 2 audio outputs on a PC, for room 1 and room 2 (with more soundcards, even more is possib...
